Then and Now

My dad sent me and email that he had received a little bit ago and forwarded it on to us, it reminded him of some pictures he has of his parents. These first few pictures are America during the years 1935-1939. My grandparents would have been around their early 20's during this time. I always wonder what it will be like when my kids are as old as me or my grandkids....if this is back in the 1930's imagine what they will think of our time and how different it will be then.

This was just 70 years ago. Tagged on to the first photos it says...."Makes complaining about no cell service, high gasoline prices, not enough cable channels, seems a bit ludicrous." It is so true! How lucky we really are to live in a time where we do complain about stuff like that. I am so thankful that we have a home and all the things within it, especially the healthy little family we have. If we keep progressing like we have our children and their children will be blessed with so much. I think also though it will be a very different world, a lot scarier where more things are seen as unimportant. My sister called me yesterday and told me that on Yahoo there was a study done proving that people are happier without children. ???? Are you kidding me? What a boring life. I am sure you would travel and see a lot more and spend more money and time on yourself, but it is truly amazing the happiness family and children can bring you. It is a selfless act, not just because I have done it, but you do sacrifice a lot and much changes. It's funny because Brady and I will talk about old times and the single life sometimes and how we had not a care in the world. It is the simple pleasures now...like last night when we turned the music up and we were dancing with Boden. Brady and I were dancing with each other, but Boden attached at my hip, and both our arms around him watching him giggle and his whole face lighting up as we spun around the living room, or when we run to get the video camera out just so we can catch a sweet or hilarious moment. There are bitter sweets to everything, but I think family and children are the sweets and they outweigh all the bitterness that may pop up in your life or at least help you get through it....there is my inspirational thought for the day.

These next few photos are about 20 years later when my dad was born. Quite the contrast in
1955. The email put pictures along with comments people made back then.....All of us have thought something like it, but it is so different in the present.

'Its too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make end meet.'
'Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging 7 cents just to mail a letter.'
'When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 25 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage'....ha ha that one makes me laugh.
'Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.'
'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $1,000 will only buy a used one.'
'No one can afford to be sick anymore. At $15.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood.'
'Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government.'

  2. So this doesn't exactly have anything to do with your post. Which was amazing by the way. But now that you've added me on facebook, and I stalked you there and found your blog, and stalked you here, I am even more convinced that you are an absolute knock out with the cutest family and loveliest personality! :) Thank you for being such a delight!
